Sam Briggs CrossFit Games 2020 Interview

2020 CrossFit Games Q&A with INOV8 athlete, Sam Briggs

With just a few days to go, we caught up with CrossFit Games athlete, legend and INOV8 training athlete Sam Briggs on this year’s CrossFit Games and what to expect from her in the 2021 season.

Sam Briggs

How has your games prep been this year? You must have had a lot of changes to your normal routine.

There have been a lot of ups and downs this year with the Games format changing and dates being moved etc; not being allowed in gyms for a lot of the season, then not being able to travel to be on a Games training camp or work with my coach. So a lot this year has been different but my dedication to training has remained the same and my focus to be the best I can be is still there.

How are you feeling about the Games this year?

I’m excited to get started, this has been a very long season with a lot of uncertainty. I think the athletes and the supporters are ready for some Games action!

The CrossFit Open is now back in February – how does it feel to be back to the old routine, and will you be participating?

I’m happy that the open has moved back to February. Last year it didn’t feel like we had any off-season and mentally I wasn’t ready to give my all. In 2021 I’ll be bringing my A-game trying to qualify again!

Is there any workout that you would love to be announced?

I wouldn’t love doing it but I think I’d do well if the run we got was long paired with maybe burpees or a light/moderate weight barbell movement.

Is there anything specific that you’ve been working on in your training this year?

Strength is always something I have to work on but I love training so putting in the hours is never a problem.

Sam Briggs

What’s been your all-time favourite moment at the CrossFit Games for you over the years?

I think I would have to say “Amanda” in 2010, as that was my first-ever event under the lights of the tennis stadium and made me realise that CrossFit was what I wanted to dedicate my time and life to.

Do you have any events planned for the 2021 season?

Hopefully travel restrictions will allow for us to compete in a 2021 season. Ideally, I’d do one or two individual Sanctional events and maybe one or two on a team, as I love the change in dynamic of the team comps.

What’s your go-to training shoe at the moment?

I’ve been loving the F-LITE 235 V3’s - I've not found a workout yet that they’re not comfortable or suitable for.

The first stage of the 2020 CrossFit Games starts this Friday, an online competition over 2 days. The top 5 men and women with then earn their spot at finals in October I Aromas, CA, where it all began. You can watch the action live through the CrossFit Games official YouTube channel.
