The Leatherwood Ultra 50 Miler was a great to kick off my ultra season with a win and course record, and 5th overall, at this hilly and challenging 50 mile race.
I wore the UltraShorts, which were awesome. Not only no chafing issues, but I really appreciated being able to carry a few gels in the pockets without irritation or issue. Also, I wore the Stormshell for the entire race – it was raining on us, so the jacket kept me dry and warm throughout the day. It was helpful to have the half-zip to regulate heat. Lastly, I used the Roclite 268s, which were better than anything else I saw at managing the incredible mud and allowing me to have grip – the wide lug pattern also helped to shed the mud that wanted to cake up and stick to the foot. (Although, I’ll point out that the 2nd place female wore XTalons and thought those worked great also!)
