I ran the Cayuga Trails 50 Mile in Ithaca NY, which was also serving as the 2014 US 50 Mile Championship. It was a beautiful but challenging course, with views of the gorges and waterfalls throughout the course. I surprised myself, only a few weeks after Massanutten Mountain Trails 100, with running strong at Cayuga and earning 3rd place at the US Championship! It was especially awesome to share some miles with Team Inov8 runners Ashley and Scott throughout the day, and get to cheer on Yassine and Ben as they battled at the front of the field.
I used the Roclite 268s for the course – it featured a mix of terrain with some rooty and technical trails, thousands of stone stairs, a bit of pavement, several river crossings and smooth single track – so I needed a shoe that was versatile to handle road, rock, and trail, drain fast after the river crossings, and grip to the (often wet) stone stairs. They performed beautifully, it was nice to have one less thing to think about out there!
