On May 26th, I did the Pineland Farms Trail Festival. I opted for the 50 miler, Ben Nephew was also there, doing the 50k. It rained for days before the race, so it was literally a mud-fest – 50 miles of ankle deep shoe-sucking slippery mud. It was actually a lot of fun. Anyway, I opted for the Roclite 268s, since they would have good traction in the mud but still last for 50 miles. I finished 2nd female, 8th overall, in 7:53:45.
June 8th, I raced in the highly competitive Cayuga Trails 50 miler. This race attracted top talent from across the country – and I was pleased to see both Ben Nephew and Yassine Diboun also representing team inov-8 at this race. I was able to get a podium spot – finishing 3rd female in 8:57:30. I know Yassine finished 5th male, Ben was 7th. I again opted for the Roclite 268s, since the course would be a mix of wet, slippery rocks, ankle-deep mud, stream crossings, and single track. They worked great for all those conditions, and helped me navigate the mud that just kept getting worse all day. While I wasn’t really focusing on this race (so I didn’t taper or anything), I was pleased that my legs felt strong throughout.
This was my last big race before the World Championship, and I feel ready to represent the USA in Wales in another month.
